Do You Ever WONDER

How We'll Reach Them?

O Lord, we need you, somehow, to do something so that these kids can understand this message of salvation.”  This was a prayer I prayed back in July of 2006 in Ghana, Africa, when I realized that the only language my team and I could speak (English) was a language some of the children there could not understand.  God heard that prayer and graciously provided an interpreter so the children could hear the gospel!

Here in the Great Plains Chapter (and South Dakota as a whole), we have been faced with a barrier of a different sort.  The Great Plains Chapter covers a large area of northeast South Dakota...17 counties in fact.  The essence of the problem is this: How can we, such a small group of workers and volunteers, reach such a large number of children (20,000+), spread out over such a large geographic area?

I believe our first response should be and has been to go to the Lord in prayer, and more specifically, to ask the Lord to provide more workers (paid and volunteer).  In His perfect timing, He is raising up new workers.  But I believe God has provided us with an additional means to bring the message of salvation to children across our area: The Wonder Book.  The Wonder Book is a 64 page illustrated booklet for children and according to cefonline.com it is designed to be “easily understood, biblically true to God’s Word, and inclusive enough to explain the gospel, the origin of the Christian faith, and the need for a growing relationship with God.” To find out even more about the Wonder Book and it's history, visit: http://www.cefonline.com/content/category/4/17/34/

We intend to send a Wonder Book to every home in each of our 17 counties, beginning with Corson County, which is the county in the far northwest corner of our region.  We're calling this mass mailing project the Wonder Book Blitz. By blitzing Corson County (and each of the other counties), we are bringing the gospel right into children's homes.  By blanketing every home we have the potential to reach children who may never darken the doors of a church or gospel ministry.  You may be asking, “Won't it be a waste of resources if some people throw it away with reading it?” or “Won't some households have only adults?”  To answer these questions, yes, some may throw it away without reading, but we believe that providing the only opportunity some may ever have to learn of Christ far outweighs the risk of some being thrown away. Also, though this Wonder Book was written with children in mind, the gospel contained in it is still “the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes,” regardless of the age of the person reading (Rom. 1:16).
